More about Classical Feng Shui
In the practice of classical Feng Shui, the emphasis is on the flow of energy. The focus is really on directing energy by opening windows and doors and creating pathways through a home rather than placing inert objects. Cleaning and removal of clutter is very important too. Only beautiful and attractive objects should be placed in a home as these generate good energy in the minds of those who see them. Ugly objects have the opposite effect.
The five elements are used for bridging conflicting energies in order to create harmony. The five elements are used in an energy form (colour, shape, sound) rather than the actual material. Here are some examples:
Metal: white, gold, silver, bronze; round, circle, spherical shapes; sound of a chiming clock with metal pendulum, beautiful piano music or a Tibetan singing bowl. An easy way to introduce the metal sound of a Tibetan singing bowl is to download the ‘Mindful Clock’.

Water: dark blue, black, can be combined with white/silver/gold; wavy, irregular, cascading, curvy shapes; aquarium, water feature, humidifier.
Wood: green, blue/green, light blue; long thin rod or rectangular shapes; living plants.
Earth: brown, yellow, beige; square shape; square-shaped furniture, ceramic pots.
Fire: red, purple, pink, orange; triangular, pyramid shapes; real fire, red candles, lamp with red shade.
The ‘magic bullets’ in classical Feng Shui are the chiming pendulum clock for overcoming serious misfortune energy and the calabash or Chinese bottle gourd (double spherical shape and golden colour) for overcoming sickness energy.

Both are considered as the metal element.
Feng Shui Tips for 2008 Year of the Earth Rat
From 4 February 2008 to 3 February 2009, you need to pay special attention to two areas:
North West: Sickness energy is present here during this year. Place a calabash in the North West of your home.
South: Keep the South of your home as quiet as possible. Do not undertake any major renovations or disturb the earth in the South during this year. Do not place moving water in the South and keep gardening to the minimum. Place a bowl of still water or a metal cure in the South of your home (see above).
My best wishes to you all for a healthy and prosperous Year of the Earth Rat
